HTC and Microsoft’s relationship date back to the very early stages of Windows Mobile, so it is no surprise that the Taiwanese smartphone maker is committed to Windows Phone 7. From Ziggytek: It has been a long and painful journey, but Adobe has finally given Flash 10.1 to its mobile platform partners using the following operating systems: “Android, BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7 Series, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian.” Flash 10.1 on Android requires 2.2 FroYo, which is unofficially available for Google’s Nexus One and will be run on many Android smartphones by Q4 of this year. Adobe had kept its supporters waiting, but now the “F” ball is in their courts. Let the hunt for crashes, bugs, and security holes begin. No other smartphone manufacturer has sown its seeds as broadly as HTC. Motorola is banking solely on Android. Samsung, Sony (though with plenty of Symbian history), and LG are fairly new entrants to the smartphone OS market. Apple, Palm, RIM, and Nokia (though not for long, when Symbian becomes fully open source) are closed systems with their own proprietary software. All this time, HTC has been backing Windows Mobile and Google Android like no one else. With Palm’s devastating fiscal revelations serving as the backdrop, new speculation has surfaced that HTC might be interested in buying Palm and thereby gaining a third smartphone OS to its stable.
