From Ziggytek: It has been a long and painful journey, but Adobe has finally given Flash 10.1 to its mobile platform partners using the following operating systems: “Android, BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7 Series, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian.” Flash 10.1 on Android requires 2.2 FroYo, which is unofficially available for Google’s Nexus One and will be run on many Android smartphones by Q4 of this year. Adobe had kept its supporters waiting, but now the “F” ball is in their courts. Let the hunt for crashes, bugs, and security holes begin. Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen misspoke during a Fox interview when he said that Flash 10.1 would not be available until the second half of this year. What he meant was that new hardware with 10.1 installed would not be out before Q3 2010. Adobe has clarified the misunderstanding by stating that the plug-in itself will arrive for download prior to the second half of this year. More »


Fox Business‘ interview with Shantanu Narayen, Adobe President and Chief, has revealed (6:35) that Flash 10.1 is on pace for a full release during the second half of this year for Android, RIM, and WebOS. Speaking with Bloomberg, HTC chief financial officer Cheng Hui-ming states that under the right conditions, his company could run its own operating system for its smartphones. Throughout HTC’s history, it has relied on Windows Mobile and Google Android. Were HTC to use a proprietary OS, there are many significant factors to consider. More »


No other smartphone manufacturer has sown its seeds as broadly as HTC. Motorola is banking solely on Android. Samsung, Sony (though with plenty of Symbian history), and LG are fairly new entrants to the smartphone OS market. Apple, Palm, RIM, and Nokia (though not for long, when Symbian becomes fully open source) are closed systems with their own proprietary software. All this time, HTC has been backing Windows Mobile and Google Android like no one else. With Palm’s devastating fiscal revelations serving as the backdrop, new speculation has surfaced that HTC might be interested in buying Palm and thereby gaining a third smartphone OS to its stable.
