Well no surprise there. I remember few years back, I don’t think I even heard of the company HTC. More »

When Samsung announced that its flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S, was arriving to every major American carrier, few were surprised at the unprecedented move. Most Android smartphones up until then had been relegated to one or two carriers. The Galaxy S is a smashing winner in homeland South Korea, selling over 300,000 units so far. Most prognosticators expect the world’s most powerful Android to hit it big in America (and Canada) too, but which version will come out on top? The Verizon Fascinate will be king because it is on the largest network with the best reputation, right? Not necessarily. More »

HTC has recently reported sales for Q2, and let me just say — it’s good being HTC right now. Despite earlier financial forecasts, sales grew 58% year-over-year to 60.5 billion New Taiwan dollars (roughly $1.9 billion) and net income grew 33% year-over-year to NT$8.6 billion (USD $268 million). For the first time since its unveiling last year, Android has outsold the iPhone during a fiscal quarter. Android handsets captured 28% of the market, while the iPhone was third with 21%. Both trail BlackBerry’s 36% lead. Even though Acer’s Liquid is in many ways inferior to Google’s Nexus One, the former has been a hot commodity, while the latter has barely had a sales pulse because Acer’s phone is actually much cheaper when import taxes are imposed. In the States, the Nexus One is $529, but getting one in the UK costs around £440 after VAT and other fees. In contrast, the Liquid can be had for as little as £333.70 with VAT. More »
