From Ziggytek: Today, Apple filed a massive copyright infringement lawsuit against rival smartphone manufacturer HTC and has requested that all HTC phones be pulled from sale in America. In its suit, Apple has cited almost every model that HTC makes. More »

Adobe’s MWC appearance revealed something big: only smartphones with ARM Cortex-A8 or faster processors will run Flash 10.1 properly. Also, 50Mb of free RAM is required, but all current Android devices have this covered; unfortunately, in North America, only the Nexus One and Motorola Droid have the CPU requirements, so this means that the HTC Magic (myTouch), Dream (G1), Hero, Motorola CLIQ, and other top selling Android phones will not be supported. The programming geniuses over at OpenEclair have come a long way since the first version of its open source Eclair 2.1 ROM was released on January 28th. Now in build 1.2.2, OpenEclair is generally regarded as the best, fastest (and certainly the most promising) Android 2.1 ROM for the HTC Magic and Dream (myTouch 3G and G1 respectively). All of these exploits are courtesy of hobbyist hackers who seemingly care more about their smartphones than the carriers that sell them. A few days ago, Cyanogen released his ROM for the newly rooted Nexus One, adding multi-touch to Browser. Although no other application works with multi-touch yet, Cyanogen vows to implement the highly coveted feature to the rest of Android. Also, HTC Magic (myTouch 3G) and Dream (G1) owners might be happy to know that their phones can currently run hacked versions of Android 2.1 thanks to Manup456, whose Eclair ROM installs on the aforementioned models and functions nearly flawlessly. Let me get this straight, just in case there is any confusion: Android 1.6 came out on September 15th, 2.0 on October 26th, so why is my Android powered smartphone still stuck on version 1.5 or 1.6? Google’s open source Android project arrived with the promise that it would be free and completely open to everyone. Unfortunately, one of the massive problems that Android has created is a lack of universal standards and regulations. We are in smartphone anarchy. More »
