Soneira has conducted a scientific experiment in which he claims that Apple’s iPhone 3G-S LCD is better than the much touted AMOLED display on Google’s Nexus One. OLED is inherently a far superior technology than LCD, but execution is crucial. Just because one form of technology is more advanced, it does not mean that everything that uses it will exceed the performance of an inferior approach. After a lackluster start to the new year, HTC is hoping that a robust Q2 will propel the company to a resurgent finish to 2010. The programming geniuses over at OpenEclair have come a long way since the first version of its open source Eclair 2.1 ROM was released on January 28th. Now in build 1.2.2, OpenEclair is generally regarded as the best, fastest (and certainly the most promising) Android 2.1 ROM for the HTC Magic and Dream (myTouch 3G and G1 respectively). One of the most highly anticipated smartphones yet to be confirmed is the HTC Supersonic, which for sometime, has been rumored to be a 4G phone. Here is an obscure one: small, privately owned Saygus unveiled its VPhone, which is the world’s first two-way video calling smartphone, and it packs some pretty good specifications as well –including a 3.5″ (800 x 480) LCD, Marvell PXA310 800MHz CPU, 5 megapixel camera, and a full QWERTY keypad; it even has a modem! At one time, Dell’s Mini 5 was thought to be just another tablet netbook, but last week, it was confirmed to be the world’s largest smartphone. With a 5 inch LCD, the Mini 5 is rumored to be a T-Mobile and an AT&T Android 2.0 (or 2.1 or above) phone that - all options included - could sell for upwards of $1,000. More »


Amazon Germany has already listed the HTC Desire for pre-order at €419, although no actual ship date has been declared. Reports are that in Britain, O2 and T-Mobile UK are going to carry it in March, while Vodafone will be responsible for offering it to other Europeans. More »
