Even though Acer’s Liquid is in many ways inferior to Google’s Nexus One, the former has been a hot commodity, while the latter has barely had a sales pulse because Acer’s phone is actually much cheaper when import taxes are imposed. This application is free and integrates Google Maps. IDC reports that 174.2 million smartphones were shipped in 2009, an increase of 15.1% over 2008 shipments. The top five manufacturers were Nokia, RIM, Apple, HTC, and Samsung. Meanwhile, Google’s Nexus One sales have remained steady but disappointing at 80,000 for the month of January. More »


Just announced today by surging South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung, the M100S is a high-end Android smartphone, running Eclair 2.1 and featuring an AMOLED display. In March, Koreans will be able to pick them up from SK Telecom. The Nexus One is presently the only smartphone in the world that has Eclair 2.1, so the M100S is the first non-Google branded unit to receive the latest Android build. More »
