The mid-range Samsung Galaxy Spica should be hitting store shelves in a few weeks, but no prices have been published. Archos has been making tablets as media players/web browsing devices for sometime, well before Apple’s iPad. Last year’s Archos 5 shipped with Android 1.5 and was not well reviewed. All of these exploits are courtesy of hobbyist hackers who seemingly care more about their smartphones than the carriers that sell them. A few days ago, Cyanogen released his ROM for the newly rooted Nexus One, adding multi-touch to Browser. Although no other application works with multi-touch yet, Cyanogen vows to implement the highly coveted feature to the rest of Android. Also, HTC Magic (myTouch 3G) and Dream (G1) owners might be happy to know that their phones can currently run hacked versions of Android 2.1 thanks to Manup456, whose Eclair ROM installs on the aforementioned models and functions nearly flawlessly. On Monday, LG released its InTouch Max GW620 (which is the same Eve out in Canada since fall 2009). Motorola has announced that the first South Korean Android 2.0 smartphone, the Motoroi will be available in February, with a planned American launch one month afterwards. Let me get this straight, just in case there is any confusion: Android 1.6 came out on September 15th, 2.0 on October 26th, so why is my Android powered smartphone still stuck on version 1.5 or 1.6?
