As the drama with Carrier IQ continues to grow and consumers and the government alike have their concerns, Sprint has finally done their part to respond by disabling the servers that they have responsible for the data collection by Carrier IQ.

As of this past Friday, the company has completely stopped using the tool, which was found to have been gathering information in regards to network diagnostics from users without their knowledge. The news follows the recent reveal that Carrier IQ has been deployed on over 26 million of Sprint’s handsets.

A spokesperson for the carrier said, “We are further evaluating options regarding this diagnostic software as well as Sprint’s diagnostic needs.”

Word is that Sprint has been in talks with manufacturing partners to have Carrier IQ removed from devices bound for their network. So definitely moving in the right direction.
