Yesterday, AT&T informed consumers that they had experienced an attempt by an attacker who had attempted to breach their security.

Thankfully, they were able to catch the act in progress and were successful in shutting it down immediately. They claim that no information was obtained from the attack though are still proceeding with an investigation to find out the perpetrator and why it happened.

AT&T’s statement:

We recently detected what could have been an organized attempt to obtain information on a number of customer accounts. The people in question appear to have used “auto script” technology to determine whether AT&T telephone numbers were linked to online AT&T accounts. No accounts were breached and our investigation is ongoing to determine the source or intent of the attempt to gather this information. In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we are advising the account holders involved.

I’m sure many are glad that AT&T were able to be so speedy and efficient in catching the potential attack. Who knows the drama that might have occurred if they didn’t.
