With the growing use of Near Field Communication (NFC) found in smartphones increasing, it seems as though we might have underestimated its power, since it can apparently do more than just let you pay quickly from your smartphone.

New NFC chips are being developed by Inside Secure that work by being physically embedded inside a product to guarantee authenticity. So the idea is that you could place your NFC-equipped smartphone against a product you’re wondering about and be able to easily find out if it’s real or not.

And considering that NFC chips don’t need power to work, the possibilities of where it could go have no limits - like inside the actual product or even just the packaging.

It’s pretty interesting to see this side of NFC and how it would be used in a different real world setting than just purchases. Not to mention the possibilities of what else it could do and go as well.
