Before today, Sony’s PlayStation certification was only allowed for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and Sony Tablet S, but it seems like that may change. A recent announcement by Sony Ericsson Japan announces that the Japan models of the Xperia Arc and Xperia Acro will become the latest recipients for PlayStation certification through an upcoming official software update.

What does this mean exactly? Soon Arc and Acro owners will be able to access and play the same catalog of PlayStation games that are currently available on the Xperia Play and Tablet S.

No word yet on when this update will hit for US users of the Arc and Acro, but it shouldn’t be too long of a wait, since it’s mainly a software update to pick up.
