As effortless as it can sometimes be portrayed on the big screen, hailing a cab can sometimes be tough. Especially if you’re trying to do so in London. To help relieve the stress, a group of enterprising London cab drivers are getting ready to launch a new service which will make getting a cab on the street as easy as two taps on your smartphone.
The service, known as “Hailo,” allow its users to call nearby taxis without having to stand halfway into the streets full of crazy drivers. Before its launch, 2,000 drivers have signed up to be part of the service.
The app uses your phone’s GPS system to pinpoint your location, and then allows any free taxi drivers and their fare rate to be shown to you. You will then be able to see the drivers name, vehicle registration, how far away they are, and even be able to pay the fare with your credit card. Super convenient and you don’t even have to move from the spot you’re at - they’ll come to you.
Look for it in the Android Market when it debuts tomorrow (and pick it up absolutely free).
I can totally see this being a useful service, especially for the US and anyone that lives in a taxi-populated city. No need to wave around, just tap your smartphone and ta-da.
