And here we were, thinking that Proactiv was enough to trick people into “curing” their acne. Apparently, there were two “acne cure” apps available for Android and iOS users before, named “AcneApp” and “Acne Pwner” (the latter one is hilarious).
The cost for these apps, respectively, was $0.99 and $1.99.
How do they work? Well the apps “claimed” that it is able to cure acne by using blue and red light therapy. There were available on the Android Market and the Apple App Store. Recently, the FTC has pulled the two apps out and fined the developers for the app (a fine of $1,700 and $14,294), because even the most clueless people would know the validity of such applications (derp derp derp)….I hope.
Oh wait, I was wrong…because there were actually 14,900 downloads in total for these apps who had probably downloaded in hopes that they would actually work. Now I really question the future of mankind…
