It has been predicted by an analyst house that Android will overtake iOS devices in app downloads this year, which would be a first. These predictions come from Ovum, and they may be some quite good predictions too.

They have estimated that, by the turn of the year, downloads from Android devices will hit 8.1 billion. iOS apps are predicted to just lapse at 6 billion downloads. Apple though, don’t have to hang their heads in shame.

Because its iOS app downloads will have grown nearly three times, as opposed to 2010, where they had just 2.7 billion downloads. Android though, of course, come out on top in everything, as they only had 1.4 billion downloads last year.
