Although Korean smartphone powerhouses, Samsung and LG, have adapted to using the Android system by Google on their most recent smartphones (the Galaxy line for Samsung, and Optimus line for LG), it looks like the Korean government is urging them to drop the Android platform and develop a Korean alternative.

Rumors are also going around that they’re planning to purchase HP’s webOS system instead.

Along with all these rumors on the Internet, it is said that the the Korean commerce minister has approached both Samsung and LG with concerns that due to constant reliance on Google, it would weaken the companies internationally. This fear would be from Google’s recent takeover of Motorola mobility, which they fear that Google would develop their own smartphones from Motorola, and thus, weaken Samsung and LG.

Although Google does now have the resources to produce their own Android phones, it does not seem to be happening anytime soon as most experts agree that the purchase of Motorola was an attempt to stave off continued pressure from Apple in a patent fight.

I have to agree with the experts because Samsung and LG’s current line up seem to be too engrossed in using the Android system that they’re not going to drop the Android system anytime soon. Although we don’t know the true purpose of Google purchasing Motorola, we can be assured it’s not for producing smart phones yet because there hasn’t been anything happening thus far.
