DJ_Steve from XDA developers forums has successfully been able to get Anroid 3.1 Honeycomb to work on the Dell Streak. This is a pretty big for Streak users who would potentially be able to move up from the current Android 2.2 Froyo operating system the Streak uses. The hack obviously has its share of flaws but the fact that it has made this upgrade possible is rather impressive.
One major bug is caused by the tablets low 800×480 resolution which would cause the Streak to revert to a Android 2.3 user interface that is hidden within Android 3.1. It is fixed by increasing the pixel density which is the normal reversal done with Android devices. Another known bug is that when the tablet falls asleep, it is unable to wake up unless it was plugged in. To fix this you just reset it or turn it on again.
Check out Honeycomb 3.1 being run on the Dell Streak below. The video is short and the 2 bugs we already talked about are brought up.
Nice job DJ_Steve, I wonder how long it took him to figure out the hack. I hope Streak users appreciate his hard work and don’t spend more time complaining about bugs than actually realizing they get to update the Android operating system by quite a lot if they use the hack.
