It seems as if going after Motorola and Google and peppering them with lawsuits just wasn’t enough for Microsoft. It now has set its target on bookseller Barnes and Noble.
The technology giant is slapping a lawsuit on Barnes and Noble on grounds of patent infringement. Microsoft is seeking “damages based on willful patent infringement of five patents, plus legal costs and an injunction against further infringement.” Two other manufacturers have been caught in this ordeal. Of course, Microsoft doesn’t wish to go head-to-head with Google; it would rather attack the sources directly (i.e., those who work with Google and adopt Android platform).
Microsoft says:
Our firm view remains, however, that licensing is the best way forward for the industry, and we will continue to prefer the licensing path to litigation
Of course, Microsoft raises a valid point since if what companies produce isn’t licensed, then all their hard work goes down the drain. However, to continually sue companies is somewhat overkill in a way. Or they’re just bored and have too much money to waste.
This seems like it has a long way to go before it’s resolved.
