HTC’s Thunderbolt will be getting an update for the second quarter of 2011 that will bring Android 2.3 to the 4G handset. That’s HTC’s time table though. Verizon will also have to be cleared before a roll out will commence, but the list of improvements look to really boost what is already a killer Android handset, to be quite fair.

UI refinements, One-touch word selection and copy/paste, Improved power management, Internet calling, better gaming performance and graphics management are among the improvements that will be featured.

And open API will also come too for native audio, a new media framework full replace OpenCore, AAC encoding, and a host of behind the scenes network improvements. However, improved battery life is a key thing missing.

Thunderbolt is a rapid handset when you take into hand the 1Ghz single core processor that it has. There’s a 4/3 inch screen and 768MB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage too. So get ready for a Gingerbread this summer!
