Xoom Corp. is suing Motorola over the Xoom trademark, claiming it has been using the name to promote its financial services for eight years.
The claws are out and so is Motorola’s tablet, the Xoom and Xoom Corp. themselves are angry. Xoom Corp. claims to be using the Xoom trademark name for a eight years to advertise their company service. Xoom Corp.< itself is a money transferring company mainly based in San Francisco. They decided to sue against Motorola because they used the name 'Xoom' for their new tablet which has been claimed by Xoom Corp.'s online site since 2003.
The company's complaint stated, “Through this long online use accessible via computer and mobile devices, Xoom’s trade name and the XOOM products have become associated exclusively with Xoom. Until [the] Defendants’ adoption of the Xoom brand without authorization from Xoom, Xoom to its knowledge was the only entity using the name or mark for online product offerings.”
Perhaps Xoom Corp. is only bitter about Motorola's usage of the term 'Xoom<' because they'll receive less attention for their service when users search 'Xoom' and may only see Motorola's tablet. I guess we'll just see how this all turns out.
