It is rumoured that Research in Motion, the owners of the Blackberry franchise, may be considering developing a system that will enable Android apps to be used on their Blackberry Playbook as well as its smartphones. Exciting stuff eh?
RIM could use a Dalvik virtual machine- which Android uses, meaning that it may be able to host Android apps on its Playbook, as well as other other QNX devices. This could possibly go two ways: RIM may use an open-source Dalvik virtual machine without Google’s involvement, or they may even get in agreement with Google so that official support can be given to Android apps on all of RIM’s QNX-based OS devices.
It will be interesting to see which way the scenario turns in the end, or indeed, whether anything will happen at all.
