Smartphones are proving to be ever popular in Japan and Gfk Japan, a martket research company, are reporting that seven of Japan’s top 10 handsets were indeed smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S took the top spot.

Between January 10 and 16, these are the top 10 (italic indicates feature phones):

With falling prices and greater awareness, smartphone sales are set to flourish in Japan.
