LG introduce what they describe as the world’s very first dual-core CPU powered Android smartphone. The Optimus 2X will run on Android 2.2 on first launch and an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will be released afterwards.

Nvidia’s 1GHz Tegra 2 ARM-based system will be on the phone as a chip meaning that 1080p HD video can be shot and played back on the device as well as over HDMI. The DLNA media streaming platform is supported.

On the physical side, front and rear facing cameras have been thrown in alongside a Micro SD memory card slot and a micro USB port. A 1500mAh battery will power the whole device.

Expect the phone in the first quarter of 2011.
