A cloud-based online eBookstore (what we knew as Editions) has been launched by Google, who claim it to be the “largest book library of any seller”. The bookstore offers more than 3 million books which are mostly, free. There are many several hundred books that are on offer for $10 – $15, including current bestsellers.

Just like the e-book store of the Amazon Kindle, Whispersync, Google eBooks in the cloud can be viewed across Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) devices as well as Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader through Adobe’s eBook platform.

Books can be bought from Google or independant stores that from the American Booksellers Association, which means that local book shops are still being supported.

Google claim to be 10 percent complete in terms of digitizing the world’s vast amount of books. At the moment, it has digitized “15 million books from more than 35,000 publishers, 40+ libraries, and more than 100 countries in more than 400 languages.”
