According the the UK retailer MobilesPlease, for every 15 Android devices that get sold, only one Windows Phone 7 is finding a home. For every 3 Symbian devices taken off the shelves, only one Windows Phone 7 gets out. Since its launch, the handset has only shared 3% of the whole smartphone market.

Think about it, if the device had been flying off the shelves, somebody would have told us by now. The fact that Microsoft are yet to release sales figures for last month says something, and this is not a good sign. MobilesPlease conferred with other retailers in the UK, and whilst those retailers would not reveal exact numbers, the gist of the outcome was that sales are not too impressive to mingle over.

The third quarter saw Microsoft dropping year-on-year from a share of 7.9% in 2009 to just 2.8% this year. It has been late arriving in the smartphone market with this device launching more than three years after the release of Apple’s first iPhone, but since Microsoft has so much in its pockets, it can afford to struggle on.
