When Samsung announced that bringing Android 2.2 Froyo to the Samsung Galaxy S was a “priority” to them back in July, we began expecting the update in September. Now, nearing the end of November, we are still yet to see Samsung fulfilling their “priority”.
Currently, 36% of Android users sit on Froyo but most are still stuck on the older Android 2.1. More than 3 million of these on Android 2.1 use the Samsung Galaxy S in the US alone. This news comes at a time when many are anticipating Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
There really is no news, even from US carriers about the software update. However, Samsung Mobile Canada has told users of the Captivate and Vibrant that they will be receving an update for Froyo in mid-December as well as Fascinate in early 2011. Considering the amount of angry posts on Samsung Galaxy S’ Facebook page, the handset better be getting a move on for an update.
Speculation has been travelling with some saying that instead of moving onto Android 2.2, the Galaxy S will skip it and move straight onto Android 2.3. This does not seem extremely likely due to the lack of any evidence.
Looking at the dates it’s quite easy to find how any Galaxy S user could be angry…
