It seems as if we are just hearing success after success for the Android platform and this news will probably come as no surprise to most of you out there. The figures for the third quarter of 2010 have been released and when comparing those figures to those of 2009, we can safely say that Android has increased by 628% from last year’s third quarter.

Having said this, Android has now snapped up second place on the list of most popular operating systems in the world. Whilst a tiny number of 1.4 million Android phones were sold in 2009’s third quarter (a time with no Droid or Sprint 4G), around 20 million Android devices have been purchased in 2010’s third quarter.

Compared to last year’s third quarter, 96% sales have been gained overall and Android smartphones dominate an impressive 20% of the whole smartphone market.

What feat do you think Android will seek to accomplish next?
