Samsung Galaxy S is doing so well that it is facing shortages

After news that the Samsung Galaxy S is outdoing its Apple rival iPhone 4, we now hear the word that 7 million units of the device have been shipped and at the rate that this is happnening, Samsung may face shortages that will put a boundary on just how far this smartphone can go and prevent the phone from reaching its full potential.

Reuters reported that Samsung announced on Monday that 7 million of its smartphones have been shipped out with 3 million of those going to the US (where all US carriers received the phone in July).

On the subject of the Android-powered smartphone, Chief Marketing Officer Paul Golden admitted to Reuters, ”We’re in a situation where we wish we had more supply.” Samsung do not have enough to units to supply the massive demand for its popular device.

This is due to the lack of AMOLED screens that the company have (which they also sell to other companoes), but Samsung are currently working to bring up this supply. It has been said by Samsung before that they plan to ship out 20 million Galaxy S smartphones and 1 million Galaxy S tablets before the year ends.

On the whole, competitor Apple is shipping out 14-15 million orders of its iPhone every quarter despite being available on only one US carrier. Samsung need to get this shortage problem fixed soon if it wants to get its numbers anywhere near their desired targets…
