Surpassing iPhone’s sales, Android continues its success, according to the latest market research by NPD. In the third quarter of this year, Android is reported to be installed on 44% of smartphones sold in the US, while iPhone on 23% of smartphones, followed by RIM’s Blackberry with 22%.

The top five list of best-selling mobile phones is also another thing that proves Android’s growing popularity:

1.Apple iPhone 4 (smartphone)
2.BlackBerry Curve 8500 (smartphone)
3.LG Cosmos (messaging phone)
4.Motorola Droid (smartphone)
5.HTC EVO 4G (smartphone)

As you can see, four out of the top five models are smartphones, and two out of five of those mobile phones are Android devices. This seems to be possible because Android offers a variety of devices, while there are only four different versions of Apple’s iPhone. Furthermore, Android is available on many carriers, but iPhone is limited for AT&T only.

Way to go, Android!
