Game App Review: Go Stop

From the Android Market comes a free app that is good for anytime of the day. The traditional game, Go Stop! Go Stop, also known as Hwatu, is a Korean card game. Each player captures cards to build scoring combinations of the different flower cards.

There are twelve suits, each having four cards, that represent the different months. Equaling a total of forty-eight cards, and also six extras.

Though you don’t need to be an expert at Go Stop to play this app. There is a colored bar above the suggested cards to play. The yellow bar means you can play it this round, but come next turn you might not have that chance anymore. The black bar means you will always have that move waiting there for you. But just because it doesn’t have a bar above it, doesn’t mean you can’t play those cards as well. It just means that there is nothing shown on the table in front of you, so you might not get any scoring points.

When you enter a new game you start with 250,000 won, your opponent starts with 500,000 won. Not fair, right? This is gambling, so if you lose a round, you lose some money, but not much, and it’s fake anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. Every time you enter a new game your money is reset back to 250,000 won. You can also play against someone over the 3G or WiFi internet, I have yet to try it though.

Little cartoons pop up on the screen when a good or bad move has been made, sometimes these animations can get annoying, especially in a public place, so you can always go into the settings and click the check to turn off the sound.

Your overall goal is reach seven points before your opponent does, then you have the choice to either “Go,” continue playing, or “Stop,” end it there.

I was so happy when I found this app, Go Stop is my all time favorite card game! Also, I have the real cards, it’s just I never really understood how the point system worked, so this app definitely helps you get a feel for what’s going on.

This is certainly a fun and addicting game. Best of all…it’s free!
