The Dell Streak, despite being a rather impressive handset in itself, got off to a disappointing start with its belated launch in the US after only receiving the outdated Android 1.6 OS system whereas its UK cousin received the sparkling Android 2.1 OS system. As well as this, the $549 phone was still sim-locked! This looks like it’s not going to change thanks to AT&T tightly hugging the sim-locked model but it looks like Dell is going to try and make amends for the former blow.
Chief blogger and social media advocate at Dell, Lionel Menchaca, has mentioned on his Twitter that the Dell Streak (with a 5-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 16GB internal memory, GPS and WiFi) will make a leap from Android 1.6 OS, skip its cousin’s OS of Android 2.1 and land straight on Froyo, a.k.a. the dazzling and shinier Android 2.2 with Flash 10.1.
This device has only just gone on sale, so we don’t yet have a potential release date for the Froyo version of the Dell Streak, but it looks like this amend is compulsory for Dell if they want to sell more of the product due to many users already very disappointed that AT&T won’t release its tight grip.
