Paypal is reportedly negotiating with Google to add its payment method onto Android’s app store. Current Android smartphone users can pay their fees either through Google Checkout or via carrier billing (credit card). However, no one can deny that the king of all efficient payments is Paypal–and it looks like Google’s trying to get a part of that as well.
I can see two ways in which this new addition would be helpful. For one, the addition of another payment system would prompt app developers to begin developing more Android apps (although Google’s winning Apple in number of devices sold, Apple’s app store has Android beat cold). And secondly, Paypal would also attract more Android customers for the same reason. People are comfortable with Paypal and iTunes. Google Checkout? Not so much.
Before I leave you guys, here’s another number to chew on. Theoretically, with the addition of Paypal, the Android market will gain 87 million active accounts willing to spend their moola on apps. Theoretically. 87 Million.
