Some numbers from Google have recently been revealed at the Techonomy Conference and they show how Android phones have been doing in the market. According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, about 200,000 new Android devices are being sold each day, while it was about 100,000 just two months ago.

The growth rate of these phones with an open-source operating system is incredibly phenomenal, as now people in the U.S. buy more Android phones than iPhones. Research firm iSuppli states its prediction saying how Android’s market share would surpass that of the iPhone’s iOS in 2012. By 2012, 75 million smartphones will use Android and 62 million phones will use iOS. If we see back in 2009, there were only 5 million Android phones and 25 million iOS ones.

This growth should be expected since major handset companies like Samsung, Motorola and HTC have been using this OS a lot. This all started in 2008, when Google worked with HTC and T-Mobile to launch the first Android smartphone.
