When news came out about Kmart selling the Augen GenTouch78 with a very attractive price-tag, this Blue Light special appeared too good to be true — and apparently it is. The GenTouch78 has now been accused of copyright infringement. Now, just because it’s running off of a pirated Android OS, doesn’t stop people from buying it. But reviewers have declared it to be totally inadequate.
The biggest complaint being the resistive touch screen. Not only is there a lag in the system, but it doesn’t always respond to your finger/stylus, unless you pound really hard- which is something you shouldn’t have to do.
Another disappointment would be the Android Market; yes, you can browse the apps, but that’s it. When you go to download - it says “starting download” and that’s the last you hear of that…Because it’s running off of unlicensed software. So you can’t blame Google for this product. Licenses are needed for applications like Google Maps and the Android Market, in order to get those you have to be part of the Open Handset Alliance- which Augen is not.
It doesn’t sound like it’s worth it.
What do you think?
