Nielson data shows that Google’s Android operating system has outsold Apple’s iOS in the first half of the year 2010 by a mere margin of 27% to 23%–in the U.S. market, that is. These results more or less coincide with the data of the first quarter (when Android had 28% of smartphone sales compared to iPhone’s 21%).
Although this is an amazing defeat for Apple, one should keep in mind that Apple’s 4G iPhone only went on sale recently, so the actual numbers should be a bit closer than you see. Nevertheless, the fact still remains that more Android devices are being sold across the country than iPhones (something to do with Apple’s policy of only AT&T users?).
Interesting piece of information–21% of Android users would like to switch to the iPhone whereas only 6% of iPhone users would say yes to the same switch vice versa. Looks like Apple still reigns in the envy category, wouldn’t you say?
