So much for that Motorola Droid FroYo rumor that said it would be getting 2.2 in mid-late July. Barring a major surprise from someone else, Sprint’s Evo 4G will be the first smartphone outside of the Nexus One to receive FroYo.

On August 3rd, Sprint will begin updating its WiMAX smartphone with an over-the-air upgrade, but simultaneously, manual download and installation will be available for those who are not part of the first wave of OTA activity. Sprint says that all users will have the OTA option by mid-August.
