A new rumor from a “trustworthy source” puts the Motorola Droid 2 for Verizon’s launch on August 23rd. Should the Droid 2 be released in late August, it will almost surely have Android 2.2 FroYo. The Droid X is landing on July 15th with Eclair.
Android and Me’s report seems accurate to me. Since the Droid is getting FroYo in July, I can readily envision an August Droid 2 shipping with 2.2. The Droid X is likely to be updated to FroYo near the same time as the Droid 2’s release.
As for prices, Verizon’s $200 with 2-year contract is the carrier’s going rate for high end smartphones, so the Droid 2 should be similar.
