Verizon says that the Motorola Droid is receiving Android 2.2 FroYo in July, presumably before the upcoming Droid X, which is shipping with Eclair on July 15th.

Google has seeded another build (FRF83) of Android 2.2 for the Nexus One. Unlikely to be the final version, for installation, the over-the-air update requires an unrooted Nexus One.

The seasoned but very much alive and kicking Motorola Droid rides again this July when it will become one of the first smartphones outside of the Nexus One to be updated officially to FroYo. Since the Droid X is launching on the 15th of the same month, it is probably getting 2.2 in August.
