Today’s Samsung Captivate announcement was expected, as the Galaxy S cleared the FCC with AT&T bands in April. Other carriers (viz, Sprint) are likely to snag a version of Samsung’s premiere Android smartphone too. AT&T’s model will be available within a few months.

Save for a different body, the Captivate is identical to the Galaxy S. It is interesting that AT&T’s site neglects to mention the front-facing camera. Based on the pictures of the Captivate, it appears to feature the webcam, but since AT&T has no use for the thing anyway, it can pretend it is not there.
