Canada’s biggest CDMA carrier, Telus is reportedly getting the HTC Desire, which the company has relabeled the “Triumph.” Telus’ countdown timer to a major June 8th (which is, incidentally, one day after Steve Jobs‘ expected iPhone 4G/HD keynote) “Unleashing” could very well be for what would be the nation’s best domestic Android 2.1 smartphone.
If AT&T had been the network with the countdown timer, everyone would be speculating about the iPhone 4G/HD, but Telus is extremely unlikely to be carrying an iPhone before Verizon. However, when Apple does give birth to a CDMA iPhone, Telus is the only destination in Canada. \
UPDATE: What a letdown for Android fans! In retrospect, we should never have anticipated a dramatic marketing campaign for the launch of any smartphone not named the iPhone.

When I first go interested in the iPhone last year, I was surprised to see that Telus began carrying it because I knew that there was no such thing as a CDMA iPhone, but like you say, most Telus phones are actually GSM/HSPA. My point was that if a CDMA iPhone is coming, it would make sense for Telus to offer it in CDMA, so that it is locked to its network. I highly doubt that Verizon wouldn’t be the first CDMA carrier in the world to get a CDMA iPhone though.
If I’m not mistaken, Telus’ HSPA+ network can be unreliable since it is 3G only and cannot revert to EDGE, and it doesn’t cover as much ground as its CDMA network.
Telus has both CDMA and HSPA+. They’ve been selling the iPhone since last fall and they have a number of android phones (the Droid was renamed the Milestone). They could roll out the HTC Incredible, the Desire (Triumph) or the Samsung Galaxy S. The just got the Motorola Backflip and they’ve had the HTC Hero for a while.
Bell Canada and Telus have a weird partnership where they share the same towers and try to ‘compete’ by having different phones (Bell just got the Moto Dext). There’s very little difference in monthly costs.
Bell also sells the iPhone. So here in Canada, we have the iPhone (3G and 3GS) on 3 different carriers (Telus, Bell and Rogers).
Personally, I’m hoping that Bell will add to it’s meager android line-up be rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S (they already have the Samsung Galaxy)
