At Google I/O, much was made about Android 2.2 FroYo’s behemoth speed increase over Eclair. Thanks to the JIT compiler, the unofficially available FroYo ROM is already 600% faster than fully optimized Eclair.

Android Central is responsible for the Linpack benchmark video of the Evo 4G/Motorola Droid lagging behind with Eclair, and the Nexus One skyrocketing forwards with FroYo. Be cautious regarding benchmark scores though because they do not always indicate true real world application performance. Nevertheless, JIT looks like it is all that it has been hyped out to be.
