HTC has confirmed that the Droid Incredible, Evo 4G, MyTouch Slide, and Desire are on the priority list to receive Android 2.2 updates, but none of them is getting the new OS until the second half of this year. Although HTC has not made a statement about 2009 models, the adverb that “most” 2010 units will get FroYo indicates to me that there is no chance for the likes of the G1, MyTouch 3G, and Droid Eris since not “all” 2010 smartphones will be upgraded.

Of course, HTC’s declaration could be a cautious one, and all 2010 smartphones will get FroYo. Depending on how far along Eclair development is for the 2009 roster, HTC may scrap 2.1 and skip to 2.2, but the Droid Eris with its shiny upgrade last week, in my estimation, is unlikely to be updated, so hope that XDA developers will have a stable FroYo ROM for you eventually.

The HTC manufactured Nexus One should be the first smartphone to receive an OTA upgrade.
