Sprint just seeded Android 2.1 for the Samsung Moment, so an HTC Hero upgrade cannot be too far off. However, for those who must have Eclair on their Hero right now, there is an unofficial ROM floating around that works.

Posters on he Android Central thread comment that the ROM is functional, and installation is simple: open the executable file, and it automatically updates your Hero. You may download the ROM or wait for Sprint to give us the authorized version.
