Now arriving in the hands of Europeans, HTC’s Legend represents the second generation of entry-level Android 2.1 smartphones. Here are two comprehensive Legend reviews. Featured is Phone Arena’s 1080p (full HD!) video review. The boys at PA do an outstanding job as usual. Phone Dog’s video walk-through is shot in 720p.
Phone Arena is pleased with AMOLED’s saturated colors, but because the Legend’s resolution is only 480×320, image quality is not much improved over the Hero. The Legend’s highlight is clearly its unibody aluminum body, which is robust and sleek. HTC’s Sense UI now incorporates a “Helicopter View” that mimics Apple OS X’s Expose, which I personally love to death and cannot live without. Multi-touch and gestures work accurately on the Legend’s screen. Although it has only a 600MHz CPU, its Android Eclair performance, along with scrolling and zooming are smooth. Phone Arena’s conclusion is that the Legend has good call quality and is one of the best Android units out there, despite its modest specifications.
A sickly Noah unboxes a generically packaged HTC Legend. Like everybody else, he also digs the unibody design. The optical trackball gets high marks from him. Since the Legend is not a North American phone at the moment, there is no option to select US or Canadian English! HTC’s “Expose” thumbnail does not seem to lag when quickly bringing up a bunch of widgets and selecting among them.
The Legend appears to be the next great Android offering. My only wish is that HTC had used its aluminum unibody frame on the flagship Evo 4G, Desire, and Incredible models too.
