Not a phone but a portable media player (PMP), Philips’ GoGear Connect looks similar to the GoGear Muse MP3/multimedia player and runs Android 2.1. Philips plans for the device to launch in July. If the Muse is any indication of pricing, the Connect should be relatively affordable compared to the iPod. With Android 2.1 as the OS, the iPod Touch might finally have a serious challenger outside of the Zune HD and Cowon S9. More »

Soneira has conducted a scientific experiment in which he claims that Apple’s iPhone 3G-S LCD is better than the much touted AMOLED display on Google’s Nexus One. OLED is inherently a far superior technology than LCD, but execution is crucial. Just because one form of technology is more advanced, it does not mean that everything that uses it will exceed the performance of an inferior approach. Google has finally released Google Earth for Android 2.1 phones, of which there is only one at the moment. The 22Mb application runs very smoothly on the Nexus One and looks nearly as good as its computer counterpart. More »


On Thursday, Best Buy will be selling the Motorola Devour for $99.99 with a new 2-year Verizon contract. Meanwhile, the Droid Eris is now free and the Motorola Droid only $99.99, both with new 2-year contracts. At these prices, I would never choose the Devour over the Droid. More »

After a lackluster start to the new year, HTC is hoping that a robust Q2 will propel the company to a resurgent finish to 2010. HTC had expected Q1 revenues to be lower than the previous quarter, but with the eagerly anticipated releases of the Desire, the Legend, and other unconfirmed Android smartphones in the spring and down the line, business should be bustling from here onwards. The programming geniuses over at OpenEclair have come a long way since the first version of its open source Eclair 2.1 ROM was released on January 28th. Now in build 1.2.2, OpenEclair is generally regarded as the best, fastest (and certainly the most promising) Android 2.1 ROM for the HTC Magic and Dream (myTouch 3G and G1 respectively).
