A somewhat different take on the e-reader, Spring Design’s Alex is a handheld that operates Android with a 3.5” color LCD touchscreen (for browsing and graphics) and a 6” EPD screen for text.

Introduced at CES, the Alex is a dual-screen e-reader with a conventional EPD screen for text and a smaller LCD at the bottom specifically designed for Android usage –web surfing, multimedia, etc., although the monochrome display is also capable of displaying whatever the user wishes. At $359, the Alex is priced accordingly for a device that is, on paper, better than a Nook/Kindle but not as powerful as the iPad.
