Amazon Germany has already listed the HTC Desire for pre-order at €419, although no actual ship date has been declared. Reports are that in Britain, O2 and T-Mobile UK are going to carry it in March, while Vodafone will be responsible for offering it to other Europeans.

€419 is approximately $568.82 USD as of today, making the Desire more expensive than Google’s Nexus One. Since the Desire has HTC and carrier support, the price premium is justified, yet I (along with many) were hoping that the Nexus One had set a ceiling for all future Android smartphones, but it appears that even with substantially increased competition, manufacturers and carriers will continue to charge $500+ for higher-end models. Let us all hope that entry level smartphones will be much cheaper than they currently are.

T-Mobile has Tweeted that March 26th is the planned date for the Desire.
