Finally, what all Apple iPhone users expect as a standard feature becomes available for the Nexus One. Google enabled its over-the-air multi-touch update for its smartphone today, along with a few fixes and a newer version of the indispensable Google Maps.
Pinching-to-zoom now works in Browser, Gallery, and Maps. This will hopefully be the beginning of more thorough multi-touch functionality on the Nexus One and future Android smartphones. It has been speculated that Google refrained from offering multi-touch because of fears that it would violate Apple’s patents.
As part of this update, 3G connectivity issues have also been patched, and Google Maps 3.4 is new. Google Goggles has been added directly to the phone.
