Several sources intimate that AT&T will lose its Apple iPhone exclusivity by this week. Recently, the carrier announced that Android powered smartphones will finally make their way onto its network, with HTC, Dell, and Motorola slated to combine for five new products coming to AT&T.

Apparently, AT&T’s reputation, which has been shaky for a long time, took a nosedive after signing to take on the iPhone, whose owners are such heavy users that the phone is responsible for some of the carrier’s network troubles. Whether or not this is factual, Apple is probably responsible for terminating its exclusive contract with AT&T. The hyped January 27th Apple event is expected to be the dais on which the Cupertino company will showcase its Tablet, but there is reason to believe that a new iPhone will also be part of the program. Apple is not going to be idle while Android phones dominate headlines. With the possible AT&T schism, a new CDMA iPhone with OLED and a unibody design is just the media attention that Apple needs. If the Tablet rumors are mostly true, then it will be a companion device to the iPhone, so it is reasonable to assume that both products will be covered in Jobs’ keynote.

As for AT&T’s Android roster, nothing is known except that Dell, HTC, and Motorola will each provide exclusive phones for the much reviled carrier. Could the Nexus One also be with AT&T soon?
